This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Sidewalk Film Festival which showcases the work of more than 250 filmmakers and welcomes 15,000 film lovers to Birmingham annually. I have had the great pleasure of creating the opening credits for the festival on 6 different occasions. The opening credits serve to highlight the festival sponsors while also providing the audience a brief visual palate cleanser to prepare them for the next film.
In previous years, I focused on the craft and art of filmmaking. This year, I wanted to focus on the audience and how films bring people together. The phrase “all walks of life” and “bringing people out of the woodwork” really stuck in my mind as filmmakers and festival attendees come from all over the globe. I wanted this piece to embrace the unique community that can only be found, gleefully assembled, one weekend a year at Sidewalk.
